MGHS Alumni Association announces July 4 parade
The Mountain Grove High School Alumni Association parade will be held on Saturday, July 4. The 50th year alumni Class of 1976 will coordinate the parade, which will take place at 11 a.m. Delores Dobson Shelton of the Class of ’76, stated, “The parade is a great way for alumni to show their spirit for MGHS and to see other classmates. I encourage alumni classes, car clubs, saddle clubs, businesses, churches, and other civic organizations and interest groups to show your support for the Mountain Grove alumni and your school pride by participating in the parade.” Groups interested in being in the parade may contact Delores at 417-259-0174, Tammie Proctor Watson at 417-259-0313 or Doris Crisp Nettleton at 417-259-0447. The Alumni Band will play in the parade again this year. All current and former MGHS band members are encouraged to participate with the band in the parade. Music to “Panther Boy” and “The Star-Spangled Banner” will be available. Meet in the band room before the parade.
As in prior years, the MGHS Alumni Memorial Foundation, which operates the Alumni Memorial Park, will serve lunch after the parade at the Park.
The Alumni Association will be offering scholarships to graduating MGHS seniors at the high school awards assembly in April. Dr. David Barbe, Alumni Association president, noted that since the alumni banquet has been discontinued, the only means of raising money for scholarships is through donations by classes or individuals. “I encourage classes and individuals to consider donating to the alumni association so that we can continue offering scholarships to our graduating seniors. Donors or classes can be identified as funding the scholarship if they wish”, Dr. Barbe said.
To donate to the alumni scholarship fund or for more information on MGHS Alumni Association activities, contact Dr. David Barbe, Class of ’72, at dbarbe_md@yahoo.com or 417-838-0311.
