Carry the Cross set for Good Friday in Wright County

Posted

In what has become an annual Easter tradition, the 2023 Carry the Cross event will be held on Good Friday, April 7 alongside Highway 60 in Wright County.

Crosses will be positioned every quarter-mile in the county between Cedar Gap and Mountain Grove. The locations will be marked by a pink flag with a number for participants to use to match up with their correct spots.

Several individual believers and some church and other organizational groups are already signed up to participate in the event.

Single cross holders must be male and 18 years or older. Anyone younger or female should have at least one partner. For those interested in seeing if a spot still remains, be sure to visit “Carry the Cross-Wright County” on Facebook and send a message to the page. The crosses will be on display from 7-11 a.m. Friday morning. During that same morning, one cross will be carried from Cabool and walked to the square in Mountain Grove. After arrival, which will take place some time after 11 a.m., there will be a time to talk about the experience, pray, give praise and hear some words read from the Holy Bible. Each participating location will be holding up a cross made of pvc pipe as a way to pay tribute to Jesus Christ, who sacrificed His life on the cross for the sins of humanity.

Jesus would be placed in a borrowed tomb only to conquer death and come back to life three days later as more than 500 witnesses saw him after the resurrection.

Belief in the holiness of Jesus and an admission and confession of one’s sins to God, leads to a person receiving the gift of salvation and eternal life.

There were at least 273 known participants in the 2022 event.
