Donna Eureka (Smotherman) Parmley

Posted

Donna Eureka (Smotherman) Parmley was born minutes after her twin sister and lifetime best friend, Dixie Ann, on Oct. 19, 1942. She grew up on the family farm in Mountain View with her parents, Leonard Joseph and Lillian (Blackwell) Smotherman. Her mother passed away when she was only 11 years old. Donna worked at the St. Francis hospital while in school and graduated in 1960. In June of that year, she married Louie D. Adams. Louie joined the navy and the two of them moved to San Diego, Calif., where the first of their three children, Michaelle K., was born. Upon returning to Missouri, they moved to Cabool. They owned and operated Adams’ Auto salvage and wrecker service. They bought and sold cars and real estate. Donna was very instrumental in their success in all ventures that they were involved in. From car interiors to home remodeling, there was not much she couldn’t do. She got her real estate license and designed and built their family home. The couple had two more children, Dean L. and Toby D., before divorcing in 1979. Donna moved back to Mountain View, where she and her sister, Erma, owned and operated the Village Inn restaurant. She remarried in 1980 to Dr. James (Jim) A. Hasek, of Mountain Grove. Jim had five children: David, Charles, Laura, Sarah and Brian. Donna worked as a nurse in their family practice for 10 years until Jim’s passing in 1990. In 1991, Donna moved to Kansas where she received her LPN and RN degree. In 1995, she moved to Anderson and began working at McDonald County Living Center (Beverly Health Care) as Director of Nursing. In 2004, she married Weyman Parmley. Weyman had two children, Logan and Morgan. Donna worked for Beverly until November of 2022. She and Dixie had the privilege of closing out their careers together and retiring from Mcdonald County at the young age of 80. Donna touched the lives of many people. In countless and difficult situations, Donna was there for her patients, their families, and her staff members, to make sure everyone had the very best care, support and training possible. Donna passed away Feb. 5, 2023. She will be forever remembered for her work ethic, kind heart and love of life. Many of her caretakers toward the end of her life were young doctors and nurses who had worked alongside and/or been trained by her. Her family extends their gratitude to each and every one of them. Her care was impeccable. Donna is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved mother-in-law, Myrtle Adams; and her husbands.
