Lions get past Norwood and have won five in a row

After winning all four of their games last week, including a victory over rival Norwood, the Mansfield Lions’ baseball team is now on a five game winning streak.

In the match-up with Norwood, the Lions scored three runs in the third before cruising to an 11-1 win behind an 11-hit attack.

Judd Watterson had three RBIs and one run scored; both Austin Kingery and Carter Garrison had one RBI and one run scored; Braden Tate, Kaden Coble and Brock Gray each scored two runs; while Blake Henry scored one run.

On the mound, Garrison tossed four scoreless innings and allowed two hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Watterson had one inning on the mound and allowed one earned run on one hit with one strikeout and two walks.

Norwood’s Dillon Bennett scored the Pirates’ lone run.

Cooper Vaughan tossed three innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Toby Cottengim went one and a third innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and three walks.

Mansfield opened the week by dominating Winona, 17-0, after scoring 13 runs in the fourth inning. The Lions’ offense had 15 hits in the victory.

Tanner Indendi had a huge game with three hits, five RBIs and one run scored; Gray added three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored; Austin Kingery hit a three-run home run and finished with four RBIs and one run scored; Ashton Pierson hit a solo home run and had one RBI with three runs scored; Bryston Kingery had one RBI and scored twice; Garrison scored three times; both Watterson and Henry had one RBI and one run scored; while Coble scored one run.

Brock Gray tossed three innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits with three strikeouts. Watterson had one inning of shutout ball, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

Late in the week, Mansfield scored three runs in both the first and sixth innings to defeat Buffalo, 7-1. Coble had two RBIs and one run scored; Garrison had one RBI and scored twice; Gray scored twice; Bryston Kingery, Indendi and Watterson each had one RBI; while Riley Pierson scored one run. Coble tossed seven innings on the mound, allowing one earned run on five hits with 13 strikeouts.

Mansfield also had a 6-1 win in 11 innings over Halfway. (No statistics were made available by press time for that win.)
