A 47-year-old Hartville woman was among two fatalities in a tragic accident that took place at 3:38 p.m. on April 18 in Webster County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Report, Christopher Maples, 56, of Strafford, was driving his 2018 Dodge Journey westbound on I-44, three miles west of Marshfield.
Reportedly, he lost control of the vehicle and it went off the roadway into the median then airborne. It rolled over the median cables into the eastbound lanes and struck a 2022 Ford Edge driven by Melanie McDaris, 47.
Both drivers would eventually be pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to the same report, Maples was reportedly not wearing safety device.
McDaris was reportedly wearing a safety device.
The two deaths were the 26th and 27th in Troop D as reported for 2023.
Webster County Assistant Coroner Robert Jernigan was among those on the scene of the accident.
