Mansfield R-IV’s Proposition 2 focuses on students, safety and no new taxes

Voters can approve the no tax bond issue in April 6 election

Through the years, the Mansfield R-IV School Board and administration has focused on being good stewards of the dollars in their budget.

When the current debt service of $1.07 was put in place in 2007 to help the district construct a gymnasium after its previous one was condemned, the district was able to pay off the debt five years early providing $699,248 in savings.

This puts the district in a position for its next big project that would come at no additional tax increase to district taxpayers, though it does require voter approval in the April 6 election.

What is known as Proposition 2 will be on the ballot asking voters for a “Yes” vote to help the district borrow $6 million for the purpose of providing significant upgrades to the campus. A 4/7 majority or 57.1% plus one vote is needed in order to pass the bond issue.

Approval will allow the district to construct an 8,200 sq. ft. performing arts facility with  400-600 seating capacity that will double as a storm shelter for the Mansfield community.

“It will be built to standards and to withstand a tornado event and will be available to the community,” said Mansfield Superintendent Dr. Richard Wylie.
