Mountain Grove, Norwood track shine at Zizzer Relays

Both the Mountain Grove and Norwood track and field programs recently competed in the annual Zizzer Relays hosted by West Plains.

The nearly 30-team meet features several large schools like Ozark, Willard, Parkview, Hillcrest and the host Zizzers.

In spite of the challenge, the Lady Panthers absolutely shined and had an outstanding meet.

In a 100-meter dash event featuring 50 runners, Jozey Sharp-MacPherson took first place with a seasonal best time of 12.69 seconds. She also finished fourth in the 200 (26.82).

Later, she helped the 4x100-meter relay team  with Savannah Hellbusch, Kailyn Wake and Reagan Hoerning take second with a time of 51.20 seconds. It was the fourth best time in school history.

Meanwhile, Kylie Roth was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.39, personal best) and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles (53.15), which is 12th best in school history.

Katelyn Jarrett took seventh in the 800 meters (2:40.03, personal best). The group of distance relay runners also took second with a time of 14:52.07.

Wake had an outstanding meet. She beat a field of more than 40 jumpers to take first in the long jump with a leap of 16’4.75”. She also won the high jump event beating more than 20 others when she cleared 4’11.7.5”. Wake was also third in the triple jump (9.81 meters).

In the pole vault event, Lilly Hines was third (8’6”) and Kenadie Busalaki took seventh (1.98 meters).

In discus, Hoerning had the 13th best throw in school history (93’2”) to take sixth.

The Panthers were led by Jimmy Holloway placing seventh in the shot put with a personal best toss of 45’3.25”.

In relays, the 4x100-meter was eighth (46.37) while the 4x400 also took eighth (9:47.68).

Alexander Prestage placed eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.88 seconds.

Norwood

The Norwood track and field program was led by Ben Smith, who placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.77 seconds.

He was also 12th in the 1,600 meters (5:00.56).

The Lady Pirates did not have any Top-10 performances.

Annie Sullivan was the closest to earning team points after she finished 10th in the discus with a toss of 26.38 meters.
