Panthers’ tennis opens season beating Licking and Houston

It was a great start to the season for Mountain Grove’s tennis team as they picked up wins over both Licking and Houston.

Against the Wildcats, the Panthers earned a shutout victory, 9-0.

In singles, no players lost a single game as each won, 8-0. Winners were Kyle Penner, Jake Hisler, Michaela Dickey, Charis Alsup, Taea Emery and Erecka Penner.

In doubles, Kyle Penner and Hisler teamed for an 8-1 win. Shutout victories of 8-0 came for Dickey and Alsup as well as Emery and Erecka Penner.

Against the Tigers, the Panthers won close battle, 6-3.

In singles action, Kyle Penner won his match 8-0. Also picking up wins were Emery (8-5) and Katie Duncan (8-2).

Dickey lost a heartbreaker, 9-7, while Alsup fell, 8-1.

In doubles action, Kyle Penner and Dickey held on for an 8-5 win.

Erecka Penner and Duncan won the No. 3 doubles match, 8-0.

The No. 2 doubles team of Alsup and Emery lost a heartbreaker, 9-7.
