Ronald Gurgel, son of the late Arnold and Shirley (Read) Gurgel, was born June 26, 1946, in Blue Island, Ill., and went home to his Lord and Savior on March 31, 2023, at his home in Mountain Grove. He was 76 years old. Ron graduated from Glen Ellen High School in Illinois in 1964. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He worked for Rheem as the coordinator for four departments, and he retired after 30 years. Ron was united in marriage to Holly Wahlquist on May 5, 1983. One of Ron’s favorite sayings was, “I know nothing. Ask my wife.” Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Shirley Gurgel, and by his brother William. Ron is survived by his wife, Holly Gurgel; his four children, June Antisek, Ronnie Gurgel, Jennifer Krull (Pat) and Randy Sundberg (Ann); three grandchildren, Aaron Antisek, Kayla Krull and Bobby Krull; as well as a host of family and friends that will miss him very much.
Memorial Services for Ron Gurgel were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove with the Rev. Wanda Heidemann officiating. Special songs were, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” Serving as pallbearers were, Randy Sundberg, Patrick Krull, Larry McDougal, Michael Flannagan, Alice Bell and Terri Brandel. Burial with full military honors was in the Clifty Hall Cemetery near Vanzant, under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove.
