Tennis team enjoys success at Salem Tournament

Mountain Grove’s tennis team continued to make the 2023 season a special one last week when they had several solid performances at the Salem Tournament.

In singles action, No. 1 player Kyle Penner took first place overall.

Jake Hisler was first among the No. 2 singles players.

In doubles action, the team of Charlie Alsup and Michaela Dickey took second place among the No. 1 doubles teams.

Taea Emery and Erecka Penner finished second in No. 2 doubles action.

The Panthers also won a pair of other matches as they combined to shut out both opponents, 18-0.

Against Houston on the Panthers’ home court, the team knocked off the Tigers, 9-0.

In singles action, Kyle Penner won in No. 1 singles, 8-3. Both Hisler and Dickey won 8-5 matches.

Alsup and Erecka Penner picked up 8-0 wins while Emery won in No. 5 singles, 8-1.

In doubles, Penner and Hisler picked up an 8-2 win. Dickey and Alsup along with Emerey and Erecka Penner each won their doubles matches, 8-0.

At home against Licking, Mountain Grove only allowed the Wildcats to win three total games.

In singles, Hisler and Emery both won 8-1. Kyle Penner, Dickey, Alsup and Erecka Penner all won, 8-0.

In doubles, Dickey and Alsup won the No. 2 doubles match-up, 8-1. Both Kyle Penner and Hisler along with Erecka Penner and Emery won their matches, 8-0.
