The American Cup now open in Mountain Grove

Both Ben and Hannah Martin are asking area residents to join them in the “revolution against bad coffee” by visiting their recently opened “The American Cup” in the shopping center by the old Pizza Hut in Mountain Grove.

Their drinks menu includes both hot and cold coffee favorites like “The Patriot,” which is a caramel mocha mocchiato. Other American-themed drinks feature names like “The Revolution” and “Lady Liberty.”

Special energy drinks called “firecrackers” are also available to those who do not prefer coffee.

Leading the staff in making the drinks is Hannah Martin.

The staff is currently being trained by Hannah, who brings to the job eight years working as a barista with a Starbucks in California. She also managed a few Starbucks locations.

When she moved to Mountain Grove back in 2017, she began to work for “Oh My Frozen Custard & Coffee.”

It was there that two people who had a love for coffee met in Ben and Hannah, and the rest is history.

Ben said the couple had discussed and planned their vision for opening a coffee location the past one and a half years.

“We happened to find the building here and we just went for it,” he said.

He said they started with the business name and the vision grew from there. The start of the American-themed coffee company was inspired by the events following the Boston Tea Party in the late 1700s. As tea was known as the “traitor’s drink” in the eyes of patriots, revolutionists filled their cups with coffee as a symbol of protest against British authority. Coffee was then known as “The Patriots Drink.”

With the focus on America, the Martins attempt to get all of their products to be those made in America.

Their small batch beans are roasted fresh in nearby Ozark. They are able to get their milk from nearby Ozark Mountain Creamery and even their plastic cups are American made.

“We want to keep everything local and try to keep using products made in America,” Ben Martin said.

They also use three types of actual roasts when it comes to black coffee beans.

Another key to their business is a focus on providing the fastest service a customer can get in ordering from their quality menu.

They are in the process of starting curbside pickup. This leads to their goal of an order being taken and a customer receiving their product curbside in around two minutes.

During the next year, the couple is developing a mobile app to provide customers with an even more convenient way to order their drinks while offering a quicker pickup time.

Ben’s mother also has her “S’muffins” using her original recipe available to purchase for those wishing to have a food item to go with their coffee or other drink off the menu. The hours of operation are 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday. They are closed on Sundays.
