Fall baseball preview: Hartville
There’s a lot of optimism this fall for the Hartville Eagles after they ended last spring as a district champion before falling one game short of the Final Four.
All four starting pitchers are returning from the 15-win squad.
The rotation is led by senior Gus Sinning (P, 3B, OF). The rest of the pitchers include Truett Coryell (P, OF), Brodyn Hulsey (P, 2B), Heston Lowery (P, 2B), Maddox Jones (P, RF) and Cole Sinning (P, LF).
“Every starting pitcher is coming back this season from last season,” said Hartville head coach Bradey Welsh.
“We should have a solid pitching staff again this fall. If we are throwing strikes then we will always give ourselves a chance to win. Our pitchers are capable of holding teams to three runs or less every game and they know that is expected of them every outing.”
Jacob Meglan (1B) and Brock Jones (C) round out the other position players.
Gus Sinning, Brock Jones, Meglan and Coryell are the team’s four seniors.
Offensively, Coach Welsh believes his team can be very productive this fall.
“We hit really well in the fall last season, but we struggled offensively in the spring season,” he said.
“If we come together and hit well as a team then we should have a successful season.”
Defensively, the goal is to have two errors or less in every game.
“I know we are capable of this as a team,” Coach Welsh said.
“Our pitchers do a good job of getting ground balls and pop ups. We have to be able to make the routine plays. If we can make the routine plays and keep runners off the bases then we will always be in a good position to win.”
Last fall season, the Eagles were 14-4 before falling to Gainesville in the Summit Conference championship game.
The team is also getting a boost from the experience the players gained over the summer, especially for the incoming freshmen.
Hartville’s first home game is against Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Sep. 4.
