Four Mansfield track stars head to state

Four Mansfield track and field athletes have advanced to the Class 2 State Championships after earning top-four finishes at last weekend’s Class 2, Section 3 meet in Buffalo.
Kellen Campbell won the sectional title in the triple jump event after leaping a personal best 13,49 meters.
Just three weeks after breaking his arm at the meet in Mountain Grove, Malachi Ussery managed to advance to state in the long jump after leaping over 20 feet with his leap of 6.28 meters. He placed second at sectionals.
Fisher Croney advanced in the high jump event for the second year in a row after clearing 1.83 meters to finish third at sectionals.
The Lions also scored points in three other events at sectionals.
In the 4x100-meter relay, Kaden Young, Owen Rhodes, Campbell and Croney placed seventh (47.39).
Campbell, Young, Rhodes and Ussery teamed in the 4x400-meter relay to also finish seventh (3:43.32).
Brent Stuart added an eighth place finish in the 1,600 meters (5:09.31).
As a team, the Lions were 12th in sectionals with 29 points.
Addie Jones was the lone Lady Lion to advance to state after she leaped 4.87 meters in the long jump. She will now compete in the state championships for a third year in a row.
Jones also took fifth in the 100 meters (13.67) and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles (55.15).
Devynn Ball was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (53.45).
As for the 4x100-meter relay team, Kayley Kingery, Dalanie Petty, Ball and Jones were fifth, just falling short of advancing to state, with their time of 54.77 seconds.
The Lady Lions were 15th in the team standings with 16 points.
The athletes who advanced will compete in the Class 2 State Championships on May 22-23 in Jefferson City.
