Mansfield Lady Lions’ volleyball is ready to surprise several teams this fall season

The Mansfield Lady Lions’ volleyball team is set to surprise several teams this season after going just 8-25 a year ago.
This year’s squad features the return of junior outside hitter Kayley Kingery, who is also a two-time All-District and All-Summit Conference selection. Other key returners include juniors Addie Brooke (setter), Devynn Ball (outside hitter) and Olivia Purdy (middle blocker).
Sophomores Jadalyn Coble and Patience Parsons are also joined by returning JV players Kia Medlin (junior) and Chloe Holyoak (sophomore).
Among the large group of freshmen includes Sydney Dugger (libero) and Bayli Brazil (middle). Both are likely to make an impact on the court this season.
Mansfield head coach Emily Smith says her team has added “depth, skill and game knowledge with a strong bench.”
“Our biggest strength this year is our depth,” said Mansfield head coach Emily Smith.
“With seven freshmen, the most we’ve had in recent years, we have a full squad capable of running high-level practices. We will be able to scrimmage more effectively. There will be healthy competitions for positions and playing time. We will have experienced players coming off the bench. This season will look different for us.”
Coach Smith said her team may be the underdogs in many match-ups, but her squad looks forward to proving themselves while pushing their limits and setting the bar high.
“I am proud of all my athletes, for the work they put in, and their willingness to show up every day for each other and myself,” Coach Smith said. “We believe in unity and togetherness and watching this team band together makes me really excited for what’s to come.” 
Mansfield starts their season on the road in Lutie on Aug. 27.
Their first home match is on Sep. 8 against Greenwood at 7 p.m.
