Lady Panthers’ golf takes ninth at state

The Mountain Grove Lady Panthers’ golf team finished ninth in the Class 2 State Championships held Oct. 20-21 at Meadow Lake Acres in New Bloomfield.
On day one, golfers battled 18 m.p.h. winds while day two featured 23 m.p.h. winds.
Mountain Grove head coach Mike Mallow said the course was challenging with their soft fairways, with the wind making things even more challenging.
In a field of 89 golfers, Chloe Slagle had the squad’s best finish as she was in 54th place with a 213.
She shot a 110 on day one and a 103 on day two.
Peyton Tyrrell shot a 111 and a 118 for a 229 while Gabby Miller added a 120 and a 118 for a 238.
Meanwhile, Payton O’Connor’s first day score could not be verified.
She did shoot a 117 on day two.
Emma Crewse shot a 118 on day one, but withdrew due to injury on day two.
“I’m sure the girls were disappointed with the results this week,” Coach Mallow said. “However, when you look at the big picture it was a great year. The first ever trip to the state tournament as a team is a big accomplishment. I’m proud of our progress!”
