Zoey Criner qualifies for state championships

Mountain Grove’s Zoey Criner was the lone Lady Panthers’ golfer to qualify for the Class 2 state championships after earning a spot in last week’s Class 2, District 3 Tournament.
On the Whispering Oaks Golf Course in Marshfield, Criner shot a 108 to finish 16th in an event featuring 64 golfers.
Morgan Tyrrell shot a 112 for 23rd place, Emma Crewse and Chloe Slagle were in a tie for 26th place with a 113 while Payton O’Connor was 28th with a 114.
The combined scores helped the Lady Panthers hold off Clever by four strokes for fourth place in the team standings.
“The girls continued to improve throughout the season,” said Mountain Grove Coach Mike Mallow. “I’m proud of them.”
Criner will now play at Freemont Hills Country Club in Nixa on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22 with an individual chance at winning a state title.
