Author Dr. David Jerome speaks at Mansfield event

Author Dr. David Jerome with Larry Dennis, long-time managing editor and publisher of the Mansfield Mirror.

Missouri has been called home by multiple baseball greats, and on Monday evening May 11, author David Jerome gave us insight into the lives and careers of two of them who lived right here in southwest Missouri.
First off, he shared his interviews with Bill Virdon, who made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1955 and earned Rookie of the Year. Then followed up with, Preacher Roe, five-time All-Star left-hander, who pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization, Pittsburgh Pirates, then Brooklyn Dodgers. Both men called West Plains home.
Dr. Jerome, current adjunct professor at Mission University in Springfield and retired Army Major, has written well researched and detailed biographies on both men highlighting their humility and their values as well as their baseball statistics.
Dr. Jerome’s books are both available on Amazon. “Bill Virdon: A Life in Baseball and Preacher Roe: The Life of a Professional Baseball Great from the Ozarks.”
