Lady Pirates’ softball team’s record falls to .500

It has been a tough stretch for the Norwood Lady Pirates’ softball team recently as they lost two out of three games in two separate tournaments and did the same with three regular season contests.
Through it all, Norwood sits with a .500 record at 8-8 on the season.
In the Norwood Family Pharmacy Tournament this past weekend, their lone win was a 12-1 thrashing of Van Buren.
They also lost though to rival Hartville, 3-1, and fell to Halfway, 7-5. (Information for the Hartville game is in the Lady Eagles’ article. No information was made available by press time on the tournament games.)
In the Walnut Grove Softball Tournament, Norwood did get a 12-3 victory over Aurora behind a 15-hit attack.
Kinley Sinning had three RBIs and scored twice; Autumn Gunter had three hits, three RBIs and scored one run; Maddie Campbell scored three times; Jaycee Hall and Gracelynn Miller each had one RBI and one run scored; Gentry Davault had one RBI; while Jayden Chambers, Addie Smith and Natalee Lawson each scored one run.
Campbell tossed six innings on the mound and allowed three earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
They followed that win with a tough 4-0 loss to Monett.
Miller had three of her team’s five hits in the loss.
Campbell tossed six innings and gave up four earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
In their final game of the tournament, the Lady Pirates gave up five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings of a 10-9 loss to Marion C. Early.
Campbell hit a solo home run and finished with one RBI and two runs scored as did Hall.
Gunter had two RBIs and scored one run; Miller, Sinning and Lawson each had one RBI and one run scored; Davault had one RBI; while Chambers scored one run.
Campbell tossed five and a third innings and allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.
Their other win came on Sep. 20 as they defeated Van Buren, 3-1.
Campbell got back on track with a complete game shutout, tossing seven innings and giving up seven hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.
Offensively, Sinning had one RBI, Campbell scored twice and Katelynn Bennett scored one run.
The Lady Pirates fell 1-0 to New Covenant Academy after giving up the lone run in a final at-bat.
Norwood had two runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning before three straight fielder’s choice plays ended the threat.
Campbell tossed seven innings on the mound and gave up one earned run on nine hits with nine strikeouts.
