Lady Pirates move winning streak to five

The Norwood Lady Pirates’ basketball team pushed their winning streak to five straight after picking up a pair of home victories where they outscored two opponents by a 110-70 margin.
On Dec. 9, the Lady Pirates used a 19-point third quarter to pull away from Alton, 45-35.
Early in the game, Kalie Chadwell had four points and Autumn Gunter added a 3-pointer to help the Lady Pirates take an 11-5 lead.
Norwood missed five free throws in the second quarter, but Chadwell’s three points helped the Lady Pirates hold onto a two-point lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Quinncy Vestal hit a 3-pointer and scored six points while Chadwell added another six points of her own as the Lady Pirates scored 19 points.
Norwood took a nine-point edge into the final eight minutes . Addy Gray hit a needed 3-pointer as the Lady Pirates held on for a 10-point win.
Chadwell scored 15 points; Jayden Chambers had eight points; Gunter scored seven; both Gray and Vestal had six points; while Gentry Davault scored three points.
Three nights later, the Lady Pirates hosted Bakersfield and added a 65-35 victory.
Norwood scored more than 21 points in each of the first two quarters to propel them to a big 30-point win.
Chadwell scored eight points in a 21-point frame and Davault added four points as the Lady Pirates led 21-7.
Chadwell added one 3-pointer and seven points while Gray added a 3-pointer and scored five points. Gunter, Vestal and Chambers each added four points as Norwood scored 26 points in the second quarter to take a 47-20 lead into halftime.
Vestal’s five points in the third quarter helped the Lady Pirates push their lead to 32 entering the fourth and they never looked back.
Chadwell scored 19 points; Chambers added 12; Vestal finished with 1; Davault had nine; Gray added eight; and Gunter scored six points.
