Norwood Pirates off to an 8-0 start

The Norwood Pirates’ basketball team has started its season 8-0 after adding a pair of victories on the road last week.
Back on Dec. 10, Norwood opened Summit Conference play by dominating Conway, 92-48.
The Pirates got off to an amazing start with a 35-point first quarter as Noah Drake had 10 points.
Peyton McDaris added nine points and Cooper Vaughan scored eight points during the 35-15 stretch.
Just before halftime, Gunner Bradshaw had six points while both Cooper Vaughan and Carder Kelly added 3-pointers to put Norwood up 53-26 at the break.
The Pirates pulled away for good in the third quarter with 31 points, paced by six points from both Gary Williams and McDaris.
Seven different players scored in the quarter and the Norwood Pirates would cruise late to the 44-point win.
There were 11 total Pirates who scored as they were led by McDaris’ 18 points. Both Cooper Vaughan and Gunner Bradshaw had 13; Drake scored 12; Williams had nine; Kelly added eight; Andrew Bradshaw scored seven points; Pierce Lawson had six; while Hunner Finch, Hayden Finch and Carson Vaughan each had two points.
In a game played at Evangel University against Wheatland, the Pirates had a 25-point third quarter to lift them to a 65-37 victory on the campus where alum Garrett Davault currently shines with the Valor.
Drake scored six points in a 16-point first frame to lift the Pirates to a nine-point edge.
Kelly hit a 3-pointer and scored seven points in a 21-point second quarter while Cooper Vaughan and Gunner Bradshaw each scored six points to give Norwood a 37-14 halftime edge.
Drake had 10 of his team’s 25 points in the third as seven different Pirates scored. Norwood would go on to win by 28 points.
Drake scored a team-high 16 points; Cooper Vaughan added 10 points; both Kelly and Williams had nine points; both Gunner Bradshaw and McDaris had eight points; Lawson scored three; and Andrew Bradshaw had two points.
