Vernon Lee Calhoun

Vernon Lee Calhoun, son of the late Alva and Dora Calhoun, was born May 14, 1957, in Mansfield. He departed this life on Aug. 17, 2026, at his home in Fordland at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 3 days. Raised in the Mansfield area, Vernon was a familiar face to nearly everyone in town. Throughout his working life, he contributed to his community working at both the local cheese plant and steel plant before founding and operating his own business, Calhoun Heating and Air. Known for his generous heart, Vernon was always lending a helping hand and was truly the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. Vernon was united in marriage to Pam Cantrell, and to this union two children were born, Mickey and Jennifer. He later remarried to Theresa Finn, and together they had two children, Cody and Nicole. In his free time, Vernon enjoyed watching western movies and going fishing. He had a lifelong love for Elvis Presley, was a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan and was undeniably the biggest Kansas City Chiefs fan around. Above all, he treasured making memories with his children, taking trips to baseball games, traveling to the Grand Canyon, attending PBR bull riding events and NASCAR races, or simply hitting the road to visit family. His greatest pride and delight were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than holding them, spending time with them and watching them grow.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Dora Calhoun; four brothers, Lendon, Dean, Max and Gary; and one sister, Alta. He is survived by his four children, Mickey Calhoun, of Mansfield; Jennifer Worley and her husband, Jason, of Mansfield; Nicole Ramsey and her husband, Glen, of Mountain Grove; and Cody Calhoun, of Fordland; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ervin Sherman; and Johny Schofield, whom he loved like a brother. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends. Vernon was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be forever missed by all those who knew and loved him. Funeral Service was held on Aug. 19, 2026, at the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mansfield with the Rev. Ronnie Roy officiating. Song selections were “Amazing Grace,” “How Do I Say Goodbye,” “Jailhouse Rock” and “When I Get To Where I’m Going.”
