Lady Eagles beat Norwood, Mansfield for 7-1 overall record

After finishing one game under .500 during the fall softball season, it’s a shame the Hartville Lady Eagles’ softball team will not be competing for a district crown this spring.  Hartville is off to a 7-1 start and simply dominated four teams last week by outscoring their opponents, 47-13.

Two of those wins came over Wright County and Summit Conference foes Norwood and Mansfield.

Against the Lady Pirates in Norwood, Hartville scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to seal a 13-1 win. Norwood’s defense made 10 errors in the loss.

Erin Still led the way with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Brooklyn Kline had one RBI and two runs scored; Jenna Kelley added three hits, one RBI and one run scored; Ella Fairchild, Brielle Kline, Haley Parker and Katia Todd each had one RBI and one run scored; while Emilee Coday and Rylea Boyd each scored one run.

Breyanna Flachsmann tossed a complete game and allowed one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Norwood’s offense was led by Autumn Gunter’s one RBI and Kinley Sinning’s one run scored.

On the mound, Maddie Campbell gave up one earned run on 12 hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

On April 6, the Lady Eagles traveled to Mansfield and crushed the Lady Lions, 18-2, behind a 12-hit attack. Mansfield’s defense made five errors in the loss. Coday and Kelley hit back-to-back home runs in the win for Hartville. Kelley had four RBIs and three runs scored while Coday had two RBIs and two runs scored. Todd had two RBIs and scored three times; Brielle Kline and Still each had one RBI and scored twice; Taryn Flachsmann and Parker each scored twice; Brooklyn Kline had one RBI and one run scored; and Fairchild had one RBI.

Breyanna Flachsmann allowed two earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Mansfield’s offense was led by Kyra Thompson and Madison Hanger, each having one RBI. Both Lauren Jones and Macie Tate scored one run.

On the mound, Addie Jones tossed one inning and allowed three earned runs on one hit with two strikeouts and five walks. Thompson tossed three innings and allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Hartville picked up another Summit Conference win on Tuesday when they traveled to Fordland and left with a 10-5 win. Fordland’s defense made seven errors in the loss.

Hartville scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull away for the win. Coday had three RBIs in the win. Todd added two RBIs and scored three times; both Brielle Kline and Kelley had one RBI and scored one run; both Taryn Flachsmann and Still scored twice; while Parker scored one run.

Breyanna Flachsmann tossed six innings of shutout ball, allowing four hits with six strikeouts.

Against Dora on Friday, Hartville scored at least two runs in all six innings to beat the Lady Falcons, 16-5. Coday hit a grand slam and finished with three hits, six RBIs and two runs scored. Parker had two RBIs and one run scored; Still had one RBI and scored twice; Brooklyn Kline scored three times; both Brielle Kline and Todd scored twice; while both Taryn Flachsmann and Fairchild had one RBI and scored one run. On the mound, Fairchild tossed six innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
